The Athena Crest

Stories of Truth

For stories that dare to speak the truth.

The Athena Crest is dedicated to stories rooted in lived experience, knowledge, wisdom and the pursuit of understanding.

We welcome authors who have something meaningful to share, whether through personal memoir, autobiography, biography, non-fiction, research, history or thoughtful exploration of the world around us.

From deeply personal accounts and extraordinary life journeys to works that question established thinking, share knowledge or offer new perspectives, we seek writing that informs, challenges, enlightens and gives voice to experiences that deserve to be heard.

We believe that truth has the power to connect, knowledge can change perspectives, and lived experience can offer wisdom that reaches far beyond the individual.

Our Publishing Focus

The Athena Crest is not intended as a general home for every category of non-fiction.

We do not actively seek conventional self-help, motivational, spiritual or religious instruction, political persuasion, business advice or commercial success literature.

Our focus remains on lived experience, thoughtful non-fiction, documented knowledge and works that deepen understanding of people, places, history and the world we inhabit.

Submissions are considered according to their literary merit, relevance to the Crest and alignment with Athenaion Publishing's wider philosophy.

Our Editorial Philosophy

Challenge minds. Seek understanding. Honour the truth.

Athenaion Publishing believes that stories rooted in truth and lived experience have the power to deepen understanding, challenge perspectives and connect us through our shared humanity.

We welcome works that question established thinking, explore complex realities, preserve personal histories and give voice to experiences that deserve to be heard. We believe in the freedom to examine difficult subjects, challenge conventional views and encourage thoughtful discussion.

However, the pursuit of truth carries responsibility. We value intellectual honesty, respect for human dignity and the willingness to distinguish personal belief from established fact.

Editorial Integrity & Author Responsibility

The Athena Crest is dedicated to works rooted in lived experience, documented knowledge and the responsible pursuit of truth.

We expect authors to approach their subjects with intellectual honesty, sound judgement and a commitment to factual accuracy. The integrity of a non-fiction work depends not only on what is written, but on the research, evidence and accountability behind it.

Authors are responsible for researching, verifying and substantiating factual claims within their manuscripts. Information presented as fact must be supported by credible and appropriate sources. Personal recollections, interpretations, opinions and documented evidence should be clearly distinguishable.

This responsibility is particularly important when writing about medical, psychological, clinical, legal, scientific, historical, cultural or other specialist subjects. Authors must not present assumptions, speculation, fabricated information or unverified claims as established fact.

Where a work includes research, statistics, quotations, historical accounts or references to other people's work, authors are expected to maintain appropriate records and acknowledge their sources.

During our review and editorial processes, Athenaion Publishing may question statements, request clarification, identify apparent inconsistencies or ask authors to reconsider material that raises concerns. However, we do not undertake independent fact-checking, source verification or specialist research on behalf of authors.

Our editorial input is intended to support the integrity and quality of a manuscript, not replace the author's responsibility for the work they submit.

For autobiographical and memoir works, authors are also expected to distinguish personal recollection from independently established fact and to take appropriate care when making claims about identifiable individuals.

Ultimately, the author's name appears on the book. We expect authors to stand behind their research, their sources, their words and the work they choose to publish.

Real People, Privacy & Permissions

Authors writing memoirs, autobiographies, biographies or other works based on real events must take responsibility for respecting the privacy, dignity and rights of individuals whose lives or experiences appear in their work.

Where identifiable individuals are discussed, authors must take care not to disclose private, confidential or sensitive personal information unlawfully, make unsupported or potentially defamatory allegations, or misrepresent another person's experiences.

Where consent, written permission, a release or other authorisation is legally required or appropriate, it is the author's responsibility to obtain and retain the necessary documentation before submitting the manuscript for publication.

Authors must also ensure that they have the necessary rights or permissions to reproduce photographs, letters, private correspondence, documents, recordings and other third-party material.

The same care should be exercised when identifying private residences, workplaces, schools, medical facilities or other locations where their disclosure could compromise someone's privacy or safety.

Athenaion Publishing may request evidence of relevant permissions or authorisations during the review and production process. We reserve the right to question, request amendments to or decline material that presents unacceptable legal, ethical or privacy concerns.

The responsibility for the accuracy, legality and appropriate use of real people's identities, personal information and experiences remains with the author.

Content Boundaries

The Athena Crest welcomes non-fiction that explores the complexities of human experience, including difficult, controversial and uncomfortable subjects.

We recognise that personal histories and documented accounts may involve abuse, trauma, exploitation, discrimination, violence, conflict and other painful realities. Such subjects are not automatically excluded. We believe people should have the opportunity to share their experiences, document injustices and challenge established narratives.

However, we distinguish between documenting or examining harmful behaviour and promoting, encouraging or glorifying it.

We do not publish works that promote hatred, discrimination, violence, exploitation or the dehumanisation of individuals or groups based on gender, race, ethnicity, culture, sexual identity or other aspects of human identity.

Authors are expected to approach sensitive subjects with honesty, care and appropriate consideration for the people whose lives and experiences are represented. Claims concerning identifiable individuals must be responsibly researched and supported, and personal information must be handled in accordance with applicable privacy and legal requirements.

We welcome challenging perspectives, difficult truths and honest accounts of lived experience. Our boundaries exist to protect the integrity of the work, the dignity of individuals and the responsibility we share towards our readers.
